How to Prepare Your Ceremonial Cacao
If you’re new to the whole Ceremonial Cacao thing maybe you are wondering how on earth you turn this solid block of Cacao paste into a delicious cup of chocolate goodness. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back! We’ve got step-by-step instructions to show you exactly how to chop up your block, keep it fresh, and end up with an amazing cup of Cacao.
Each block of Our Ceremonial Cacao is like a work of art. You might notice these cool whitish lines running through your chocolate block. That’s totally natural and it’s called bloom. It happens when the Cacao butter separates from the Cacao mass, and it actually makes breaking the block easier. Don’t worry, bloom is harmless.
Now, how you chop up your block is totally up to you and what you’ve got in your kitchen. Here are a couple of common ways:
- Grab a sharp, heavy knife and slice off small pieces or shave it into slivers.
- Break it into small chunks and use a food processor, blender, or Nutribullet to grind it into a fine chocolate powder.
Once you’ve broken up your Cacao block, make sure to store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to keep it fresh. A dry cupboard or your kitchen pantry is perfect for that. Oh, and just a heads up, it’s not a good idea to store Ceremonial Cacao in the fridge because it can get all moldy due to the moisture. On the back label of your block, you’ll find an expiration date that’s two years from the packaging date. But truth be told, if you store it properly, Cacao can last for several years while keeping all its good stuff and potency intact.

Breathless’ Vegan Recipe:
What you’ll need:
- 28g of Ceremonial Grade Cacao
- 200ml of unsweetened coconut milk
- A pinch of salt, cayenne pepper, ground ginger and cinnamon
- Maple syrup to taste
How to Make The Perfect Cacao Cup:
- Instead of using boiling water, go for warm water. Heat the water almost to a boil, or if you’ve already boiled it, let it cool a bit before blending it with your Cacao.
- For a smoother, creamier blend, you can make a paste first or use a blender to combine all the ingredients. If you are using a blender, if the water or milk is too hot, you’ll have some extra work when you need to open the blender or Nutribullet.
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, here are two great ways to craft your cup of Cacao with love and care:
- Heat the water on a stove, add the Cacao and your chosen spices, then use a hand blender or whisk to blend it until smooth. Pour it into your favourite mug and savour the goodness!
- Alternatively, pour warm water or milk over your Cacao, starting with a small amount so you can stir it into a paste. Take your time to whisk the water or milk and Cacao together until it’s smooth. Once you have your paste, fill your cup, and add spices and sweetener to your liking. Sip, enjoy, and let the Spirit of Cacao work its magic.
Now, let your imagination soar and get creative with your own unique Cacao creations! Try out different spices and combinations. The sky is the limit!
